April’s Newest Movies: Our 10 Picks

A new month means new releases, and we are so ready for what April has to offer. This month brings us back to the 2000s but also flesh-possessing demons. Scroll down to discover the ten movies you don’t want to miss in April.

1. Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields

The dangers of a glamourous world become apparent in the Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields documentary, in which we follow American actor, model, and icon Brooke Shields. Shields opens up about her experiences of being sexualized as a child actress and the realization of it all. This commentary highlights a more significant problem within the media industry: the sexualization of young girls.

‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’ is coming to Disney+ on April 3.

2. Air

Air tells the story of the origin of the iconic Nike basketball shoe line: Air Jordan. The movie is based on the true events of a salesman at Nike, Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon), who tries to close a deal with player Michael Jordan to wear Nike shoes.

‘Air’ is coming to theaters on April 5.

3. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Follow Mario and his friends on their adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Princess Peach, the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, guides Mario on his quest to fight Bowser and defend the kingdom. The computer-animated has a star-studded cast with characters voiced by Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, and more.

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is coming to theaters on April 5.

4. On a Wing and a Prayer

Imagine being on a small plane, and the pilot dies mid-flight. That’s the plot of On a Wing and a Prayer. Doug White (Dennis Quaid) is on a flight with his whole family when, suddenly, he’s tasked with safely landing the plane.

‘On a Wing and a Prayer’ is coming to Amazon Prime Video on April 7.

5. Renfield

Working for your boss may seem horrible, but that is nothing compared to working for Dracula. Renfield follows a deranged servant, Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), tasked with bringing people to eat for his boss, Dracula (Nicolas Cage). However, after meeting and falling in love with a traffic cop, Renfield decides to stand up against the count.

‘Renfield’ is coming to theaters on April 14.

6. Ghosted

Getting ghosted happens to the best of us, but getting ghosted by a secret agent doesn’t (hopefully) happen that often. After the first date, Cole (Chris Evans) gets ghosted by Sadie (Ana de Armas) but is determined to get a second date and travels from the US to London to meet her. He gets kidnapped and discovers that Sadie is not who he thinks she is. The duo gets swept away on an adventure to save the world. Speaking of an intense second date!

‘Ghosted’ is coming to Apple TV+ on April 21.

7. Beau is Afraid

Weird is one way to describe Beau is Afraid by Ari Aster (director of Hereditary and Midsommar). The film follows an extremely anxious and paranoid man (Joaquin Phoenix) on a surrealistic journey back home after the death of his mother. Along his journey, he confronts his biggest fears.

‘Beau is Afraid’ is coming to theaters on April 21.

8. One More Time

One More Time is a Swedish comedy that transports you to the 2000s. Amelia (Hedda Stiernstedt) makes a wish on her 40th birthday that she wants to be 18 again. Her wish is fulfilled, and she goes back to her life in 2002. She soon realizes that she’s stuck reliving the same day over and over again.

‘One More Time’ is coming to Netflix on April 21.

9. Evil Dead Rise

The fifth film of the Evil Dead franchise features two sisters, Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and Beth (Lily Sullivan), who reunite after being estranged for a long time. The sisters find a book in Ellie’s house that frees flesh-possessing demons. It throws the two sisters into a nightmarish battle for survival.

‘Evil Dead Rise’ is coming to theaters on April 21.

10. Peter Pan & Wendy

The live-action movie Peter Pan & Wendy brings us back to Neverland and childhood memories. Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson) travels with her brothers to the magical Neverland and meets Peter Pan (Alexander Molony). The group embarks on an adventure to defeat the evil Captain Hook (Jude Law). A journey that will change the children’s lives forever.

‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ is coming to Disney+ on April 28.
