Movie Night but No Inspiration? Here Are 8 Movies Coming Out in May

This month a lot of old, classic movies find their way to Netflix, Disney+, Mubi, and Streamz like ‘Dirty Harry’ (1971), ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ (1984), and ‘Seven Years in Tibet’ (1997). But there are also many exciting new ones! Here are eight new movies you can look forward to in May. Movie nights here we come!

1. Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive (2022)

In the documentary Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive girls can do anything men can do. That drives Finnish freediver Johanna Nordblad to break the world record for distance traveled under ice with one breath. She bumps into a lot of headwinds but that makes her more determined than ever before. You’ll have to see for yourself whether or not she’ll break the record.

‘Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive’ is coming to Netflix on May 3.

2. Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)

If you loved the Downton Abbey movie, this is your lucky day! Because the sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era is on the way! You will even recognize some faces like English actresses Maggie Smith and Michelle Dockery and also American actress Elizabeth McGovern. Here, the family goes to France to visit the Countess of Grantham but that is (as usual) not without a good portion of family drama!

‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ is already in cinemas in the United Kingdom, is coming to cinemas in Belgium on May 4, and to cinemas in the United States on May 20.

3. Along for the Ride (2022)

This list isn’t complete without a good romantic Netflix movie. In Along for the Ride is Auden what we call an outsider, who doesn’t party or hang out with friends. Long story short: fun is something that’s not in her vocabulary. Until she meets Eli who turns her world upside down. Together they live life to the fullest!

‘Along for the Ride’ is coming to Netflix on May 6.

4. The Takedown (2022)

Did you love French actor Omar Sy in Lupin or Intouchables? Then you will probably love The Takedown as well! He plays a cop and together with another cop, (who can’t be more different from him) they need to solve a case. What first looks like a regular drug crime turns out to be a bit more serious, and that’s an understatement!

‘The Takedown’ is coming to Netflix on May 6.

5. Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

The English star actor Benedict Cumberbatch is back as Doctor Strange in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! He’s still busy with his ongoing investigation of the Time Stone. But when a friend turns his back on him and becomes an enemy, he’ll find horrific evil. This will already be the 28th movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Time flies!

‘Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is coming to Disney+ on May 11.

6. Operation Mincemeat (2021)

Besides the amazing actors who are playing in Operation Mincemeat like English Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen, and also Scottish Kelly Macdonald, the storyline is very good as well. Operation Mincemeat was a successful British fraud operation of the Second World War in 1943. But don’t be scared, this will be more than just another war movie! (At least, that’s our guess.)

‘Operation Mincemeat’ is coming to Netflix on May 11 and is already in cinemas in Belgium.

7. The Duke (2020)

The Duke is a comedy-drama that tells a story like Robin Hood. It is about an old, good man, working as a taxi driver who wanted to change the world by giving the elderly free television (cute). To accomplish that, he stole a painting from the National Gallery in London: Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington. Will this London version of Robin Hood succeed?

‘The Duke’ is coming to cinemas in Belgium on May 20.

8. Jackass Forever (2022)

Last and maybe also least (hehe), there is Jackass Forever. For the last time, the Jackass members come together to make a compilation of stunts that result in dangerous consequences. By watching this, you will probably think: “How did they survive?” But, we have to be honest, people who hurt themselves guarantee a good laugh!

‘Jackass Forever’ is coming to Netflix on May 20.
