Netflix and Chill With These Chick Flick Movies

New releases, must-watch series, viral documentaries: Netflix truly has it all. But who can keep up these days? For all the binge-watchers out there, get ready for this list. Because we are lining up some must-watch iconic chick flick movies that you have to see right now. Or for all our well-respected movie watchers: to rewatch.
Ps: Honorable mentions that are not on Netflix: ‘Clueless’, ‘The Devils Wears Prada’, and ‘Wild Child’.

Mean Girls (2004)

Oh, what a classic. Does Mean Girls even need an introduction? 16-year-old Cady Heron and her zoologist parents have lived in Africa for the past 12 years. When they arrive back in the US, Cady enrolls in a typical American high school. She stumbles upon The Plastics, the most popular girls at North Shore High School. And as all chick flicks go, that whole situation creates some pretty cinematic moments.

The movie is filled with vintage designer bags, juicy couture tracksuits, and quotes that we now know as memes. Such as “She doesn’t even go here”, “On Wednesday we wear pink”, “You can’t sit with us”, and “That’s so fetch!”, just no name a few. Even though the movie has had a second version (Mean Girls 2, also available on Netflix) it is nowhere as good as the first one.

Well-known cast members: Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler.

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days (2003)

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is a movie we could watch over and over and over again. This classic love story follows journalist Andie Anderson as she writes a column on how to lose a guy in ten days. On the other hand, Benjamin Berry, a publicist, wants to land a big deal with a jewelry brand and makes a deal with the brand owners that if he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days, he gets to promote the jewelry.

And yes, they run into each other. As Andie does everything to be every men’s worst nightmare, Ben tries to make Andie fall in love with him. A must-watch if you are looking for a laughing-out-loud movie. And if after this movie you can’t get enough of Hudson and McConaughey’s chemistry, they have another movie on Netflix: Fool’s Gold (2008).

Well-known cast members: Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Kathryn Hahn, and Thomas Lennon.

Sex And The City The Movie (2008)

Get the Cosmopolitans girls because this classic is not going to have a drink on its own! SATC is always a good idea, and thank god Sex and The City The Movie is on Netflix (both movies are, so binge away!).

We all know the SATC mood, characters, and stories, but if you don’t, that’s fine too. It’s great if you have a little background on the characters, but it’s not a must for understanding the movie. The story follows the four New York friends as Carrie is set to be married to Big. But everything goes south when Big leaves her at the altar. So Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha all leave their problems behind and depart on a girls-only vacation. But once back in New York, they have to face the bitter reality and make amends.

Well-known cast members: Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Hudson, and a small cameo by Miley Cyrus.

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants (2005)

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants is such a sweet movie, we still haven’t processed it. The story follows four young girls in their last summer before college and their first summer apart from each other. But they have found a solution to stay connected: a pair of jeans, magical if you may.

Lena is in Greece with her family, Bridget at a soccer camp in Mexico, Carmen visits her dad’s new family in South Carolina en Tibby works at a local store and is making a documentary. All four of them go through love, heartbreak, and self-growth during their summer away. And the pants play a big role in them. Every time something happens, the pants are being worn.

Well-known cast members: Blake Lively and Alexis Bledel.

A Cinderella Story (2004)

The first one of a whole lot of Cinderella story movies. But A Cinderella Story is the OG. The story is pretty self-explanatory: Cinderella and the prince. Well, Cinderella in converses and the quarterback prince.

Sam is a 17-year-old girl who works at her late dad’s diner that her evil stepmother now owns. At home, her stepmother and her two daughters make her life a living hell while at school, she is an amazing student, dreaming of pursuing her dream college. During the movie, she meets a pen pal called “nomad” and they decide to meet up at the school dance, seeing each other for the first time. Of course, her stepmother and the two daughters try to prevent Sam’s fairytale from happening.

Well-known cast members: Hilary Duff, Chad Michael Murray, Regina King, and Jennifer Coolidge.

New York Minute (2004)

The twins of our dreams! As young adults, the Olsen sisters made plenty of fun, no-brainer movies, and we hate that Netflix only has one of them available.

New York Minute follows twin sisters Jane and Roxy who are the complete opposite of each other. Jane is an uptight overachiever while Roxy is a cool rock chick waiting for her break in the music business. One day they travel into New York City as Jane is scheduled to deliver a big speech for a prestigious scholarship and Roxy wants to give her mixtape to a band that is shooting a music video in the city that day. On the train ride from Long Island to New York, Roxy loses her ticket and both sisters get kicked off the train. Will they make it in time for Jane’s big speech and Roxy’s music video shoot? We can’t tell you, but what we can tell you is this: they run into a lot of funny situations trying to reach their destination.

Well-known cast members: Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Eugene Levy, and Jack Osbourne.

What A Girl Wants (2003)

Not the Xstina song, but the movie! In What A Girl Wants, we follow Daphne Reynolds, a funny 17-year-old living in Chinatown (New York City) with her mother Libby. Daphne’s father is a Lord in the UK, but he has no idea that Daphne even exists because when Lord Henry’s mother found out that Libby was pregnant, she sent her away, never to be seen again.

Daphne knows who her father is, but she has never met him and that gives her an empty feeling. To move on with her life, she goes looking for him in London. Little does she know that the Lord has a brand new snotty family and is running in a political election.

Well-known cast members: Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, and Kelly Preston.

Miss Congeniality (2000)

The girl power we need! Netflix carries both the Miss Congeniality films (1 and 2), so binge away! If you liked So Undercover with Miley Cyrus, you will definitely like the OG version of it.

Grace Hart is a tough special agent within the FBI, but when she makes a mistake on a mission she is being put on desk work. Everything changes when the bureau gets a tip that a terrorist attack will happen at the Miss United States beauty pageant. To stop the attack, they’ll need an undercover agent, one problem: Hart is not a beauty queen. The movie follows Hart through the pageant as she tries to find clues leading up to the possible attack.

Well-known cast members: Sandra Bullock, Sir Michael Caine, and Benjamin Bratt.

From Prada To Nada (2011)

The only movie on our list that is made after 2010. We have to admit, they don’t make chick flicks like they used to anymore. From Prada to Nada reminds us of the classic Hilary Duff movie Material Girl, so we like it already!

The story follows two sisters, Nora and Mary, as they live a wealthy life in Beverly Hills. They are both very different in how they spend their father’s money, but when daddy dear suddenly dies, they find out they are bankrupt. Out of money and luck, they move in with their aunt in East LA, where life is a little less glamorous.

Well-known cast members: Camilla Belle, Wilmer Valderrama, Karla Souza, and Nicholas D’Agosto.
