The 10 Best Releases of The Week

Although winter is still in full swing, we are secretly already dreaming of next summer and its numerous festivals. To prepare ourselves as best as we can, we are already keeping a close eye on all new releases and choosing our favorite releases every week that know how to inspire us. From big artists to emerging newcomers or from true rave music to absolute pop perfection. Once again, we dish up the most diverse tracks that each managed to convince us in their own way.

1. Tove Lo — Borderline

Swedish pop goddess Tove Lo has proven herself as one of the world’s strongest pop acts over the past few years and promised additional songs for her phenomenal album Dirt Femme late last year. “Borderline” is the first single from the deluxe version and originated from the first writing session with fellow pop goddess Dua Lipa. Tove never disappoints, and this time even exceeds our expectations. “Borderline” is perhaps one of the strongest tracks she has ever released. Delightfully layered and melancholic but, above all, very compelling and engaging.

2. Jessie Ware — Pearls

Jessie Ware was the queen of pop ballads for a long time, but her metamorphosis into a ballroom queen made her immortal. Her album What’s Your Pleasure? was a monumental pop album, introducing an entirely new facet of the British singer. On the tantalizing “Pearls” she keeps her crown of disco and ballroom firmly on her head as she once again seduces us with elegant vocal lines and extravagant melodies. What an impressive artist who has really found herself after all these years and knows how to steal the show.

3. BENEE — Green Honda

There was always a rebellious character in BENEE’s music, and those traits come to the forefront in “Green Honda” more than ever. Right from the first stanza, the Kiwi artist immediately packs a punch, grabbing your attention with some slightly punky vocals, which only gain strength in the chorus. The accompanying production additionally puts the guitars clearly in the foreground to further highlight that pop-rock edge and build up at breakneck speed to a cool ending. Indeed, the closing track plays with the vocal production a bit more with cuts that make the whole thing even sharper. “Green Honda” is delightfully moody and quirky, exactly what we expect from BENEE.

4. Ashnikko — You Make Me Sick!

“You Make Me Sick!” is, to say the least, a daring song, which will certainly not appeal to everyone. However, this is the song’s biggest advantage because that is precisely what makes this single stand out from everything Ashnikko has released so far. The rough and loud was already there many times, but this time it is taken even more to the extreme. The American artist raps your eardrums together and is clearly not shy about going for less obvious sounds. “You Make Me Sick!” is as terrifying as a barking German shepherd but still has a certain undeniable appeal.

5. The Subs — Freak

Are you ready for a real rave? Belgian formation The Subs have been known and infamous for years for their extravagant parties and the accompanying soundtrack to which no one can stand still. On the brand-new “Freak” every disco ball pales thanks to the elegant build-up towards an absolute climax. The energy that The Subs put into their songs every time is infectious and distinctive, so we can’t wait to throw ourselves into “Freak” when we hear it at the next party.

6. Amrita Khan — Loyalty

The Belgian R&B world has found a new potential frontrunner with Amrita Khan, who effortlessly winds everyone around her finger with her honeyed voice. On “Loyalty”—her third release ever—she impresses again and shows how talented she is. It is sensual, seductive, and engaging but remains accessible and loyal to everything we have heard from her so far. A Belgian talent to keep an eye on if you ask us.

7. iHATEYOUTRAVY — RIP

Life is not always a bed of roses, but it is precisely in those difficult moments that we sometimes find the inspiration to give life a positive spin. iHATEYOUTRAVY does exactly that on “RIP”: a song that clearly comes straight from the heart, giving us a sense of security. The American newcomer alternates between soft rap and catchy vocal lines, making you sympathize with his story and making it clear that he really is an artist we should not underestimate.

8. shy martin — late night thoughts

“late night thoughts” is the title track of shy martin’s debut album (releasing May 19) and builds on the foundations she has established over the past few years. In the production, the Swedish artist plays with dreamy elements, creating a rich sound full of dynamics with very limited instruments. For shy martin, making this single felt different from any other song she has made so far, and we can definitely hear that liberating brashness. “late night thoughts” is a very fine discovery from the first listen and keeps getting better the more we listen to it.

9. Lip Filler — Haircut

“Haircut” is London 5-piece band Lip Filler’s first single under Chess Club Records and shows they have the talent to break through quickly. Their indie rock leans a bit towards danceable punk, immediately setting them apart from similar groups with their fresh, fruity sound. Especially in the finale, the group builds up impressively musically with particularly bold but catchy drums and a guitar line that we cannot forget anytime soon. “Haircut” emphasizes that Lip Filler will soon be crossing everyone’s lips as this is a band made to make it big.

10. Raven Artson — Rash Of Independence

Amsterdam-based Raven Artson already has a name that catches our attention, and with “Rash Of Independence” he has a fantastic single that also captures our imagination. With wonderfully high-pitched synths and distorted soundscapes, this multi-talent builds up, especially production-wise, and shows why Sevdaliza, among others, has already collaborated with him. His latest track is a razor-sharp, groovy track that is particularly danceable and gets you in the right mindset. We love a good self-care track!
