The 10 Best Songs Of The Week

Another week means another list of must-listen music releases! Besides a lot of great albums—such as Stromae and Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul—last week had a lot to offer. We’ve got a mix of emotional tracks and some uplifting pop bangers for you, so now you’re all caught up with everything that happened in the music industry last week!

1. S10 — De Diepte

As singing in Dutch is becoming more popular again, it’s no wonder that there are a lot of young singers shooting their shot nowadays. Stien Den Hollander—AKA S10—seems to be the next big thing in The Netherlands. Last year, she told us in an interview that she’s determined to create the best live show ever, and soon enough, she will have the chance to impress the world. Her new song “De Diepte” is the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest and is without any doubt one of S10’s best songs yet. An emotional, lowkey bombastic ballad that will enchant you, even if you don’t understand a single word.

2. Wet Leg — Angelica

One of the most impressive musical discoveries during these pandemic years must be Wet Leg. The duo is set to release its self-titled debut album in a few weeks, and the first singles (such as “Chaise Longue” and “Wet Dream”) already set the bar high. Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers now released “Angelica” as their fifth single, and it is—again—a banger. With some nostalgic vibes but one hell of a chorus, we can say that Wet Leg has done it again. The balance between the cuteness and roughness is remarkably good, making “Angelica ” a great success.

3. HAIM — Lost Track

It’s been some time since HAIM released new music, but we can’t say we lost track of the girls—see what we did there? Alana played the main part in Licorice Pizza, and the girls curated the soundtrack for the Netflix series The Witch Boy. During a shoot with W Magazine, they decided to spice up some things. Inspired by the book Appointment in Samarra, HAIM created “Lost Track” to accompany the photos. The cute song is fun to play on a sunny day and will make you smile! The clip is, by the way, also something to take a look at!

4. Major Lazer and Lous and The Yakuza — I Don’t Care About Nothing

Since the soundtracks for video games have become so important, the creators of Gran Turismo 7 took their time to create theirs. On the tracklist, we find big stars such as ROSALÍA, Bring Me The Horizon, Nothing But Thieves, and this collaboration between Major Lazer and Lous and The Yakuza. “I Don’t Care About Nothing” is, therefore, the big comeback of the Belgian singer, and it’s one to remember. The single sounds very sensual and will without a doubt be the soundtrack of the summer. We’re already looking forward to the second album of Lous and The Yakuza, which is rumored to be released later this year.

5. fantom — illuminati

There’s a new pop star in town, and his name is fantom. The musical project of Maxim Meyer-Horn already sounds very promising, as he’s trying to give a confidence boost to everyone who doesn’t fit in. In two minutes, his debut single “illuminati” finds its way into your head, where it will stay for the rest of the day. It’s a song to go nuts on but doesn’t completely set the tone for the rest of fantom’s debut EP. He doesn’t want to be tied to one genre, so who knows what we can expect in the future.

6. Charli XCX — Baby

Some say that Crash will be Charli XCX’s last album ever, but others doubt it. What we do know for a fact is that “Baby” is the singer’s first solo single in a while. After collaborations with Rina Sawayama, Caroline Polachek, and Christine and the Queens, Charli now proves that she still slays on her own. “Baby” proves to be a very catchy and great song to sing along to. Charli XCX scores another banger, and if Crash indeed is her last album, then we’ll be able to say that she went out with a bang.

7. Priya Ragu — Illuminous

A few weeks ago, Priya Ragu got nominated for the prestigious BBC Sound of … award. She didn’t win, but it did mean the start of a promising career. She got included in the FIFA21 soundtrack, will be the support act in Jungle’s upcoming European tour, and seems to be working on her debut album. It’s not clear if “Illuminous” will be on the tracklist, but we can assure you that you have to hear it. The Sri Lankan-Swiss singer brings happy vibes and makes you feel like dancing. Priya Ragu surely is one to watch!

8. POLIÇA — Rotting

After a couple of years of radio silence, POLIÇA seems to be returning with a brand-new album in 2022. Or at least that’s what we assume because the band itself didn’t confirm anything. With “Rotting” the American five-piece did release a brand-new single for the first time in almost two years, which sounds very promising. With dark beats and scary synths, POLIÇA crawls under our skin and knows how to keep us busy. An interesting comeback and perhaps more to look forward to!

9. Robyn — Buffalo Stance (feat. Mapei)

It’s been a while since Robyn released new music, and that has everything to do with her upcoming 9th album. The Swedish pop icon seems to be releasing her album later this year, but in the meantime, softens the wait with a cover of Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo’s Stance”. Neneh is a very big fan of Robyn, so their collaboration sounds like a match made in heaven. They’ve slowed the song down, and therefore it sounds even more sensual than the original. “Buffalo’s Stance” is the first single off of a special collaborations album that Neneh Cherry will drop later this year.

10. Danny Dwyer — Summertime

Spring is in the air, so it seems only logical that our list contains a song called “Summertime”. While the American indie rapper isn’t that popular yet, he does have some EPs and a few singles to his name, so it’s only a matter of time before he’ll break through. His latest single “Summertime” is already a fun one and perfectly captures the track title. Sunshine, good vibes, and a catchy chorus: Danny Dwyer could be the next big thing!
