These Are Our 5 Favorite Debut Albums That Came Out This Fall

2023 has already given us a lot of great musical moments and showed that creativity is still alive. After a virtuous festival summer with great concerts, fall is always a period when numerous great albums see the light of day. Now that winter is here, we chose five debut albums that made our fall a whole lot nicer.

1. ELOI — Dernier Orage

French singer ELOI has already shown how talented she is on her EPs and confirms this more than ever on her album Dernier Orage. On it, she brings together hyper pop and rock in an impressive way, channeling the emotions that made her the person she is today. A touch of melodrama, pumping beats, and a beautiful musical build-up color every gray horizon into something joyous and hopeful in 45 minutes. A standard-bearer of new French pop, ELOI contributes to the evolution of music and shows that she is not to be underestimated.

2. Sofia Kourtesis — Madres

German-Peruvian DJ and producer Sofia Kourtesis is a child of the world and encapsulates her love for a wide variety of genres in her eclectic music. Her debut album, Madres, became a contemporary, poetic ode to her roots full of warm melodies that make you dream away. At moments, the beats will make you unable to sit still, but at other times, they usher in a sense of relaxation. Sofia Kourtesis alternates between English and Spanish but also ensures unity. A perfect album to make you switch off for a bit and just enjoy.

3. Kids With Buns — out of place

On long winter nights, we crave music that provides coziness like a warm blanket. With out of place, the Belgian duo Kids With Buns has created exactly such music and musically pokes fun at us. The songs deal with coming-of-age themes that are brought with love and passion in twelve songs, which even in despondent moments, make you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to out of place, everyone feels welcome, giving every misfit a voice.

4. venbee — zero experience

We already introduced venbee in our series On Our Radar, and our suspicions have been confirmed over the past few months: the English artist is ready to take the world by storm. Her love for drum & bass shows up perfectly in her music, giving the genre a new twist. Despite her first project being called zero experience, we have to say she already sounds like an artist who will make her mark on the pop world for years to come. “messy in heaven” became the anthem of the summer and the rest of zero experience colored our fall as well.

5. Lucia & The Best Boys — Burning Castles

Anyone who is a fan of dystopian pop music à la Caroline Polachek or Christine and the Queens has to check out the debut album by Scottish band Lucia & The Best Boys. On Burning Castles, they don’t shy away from dramatic build-ups, playing with traditional instruments, like a bagpipe, but adding a modern twist each time. Pop music that seeks extravagance while also managing to endear a little is exactly what we like to listen to. Burning Castles is the perfect debut!
